We caught up with the owners of The Trick, to gain an insight into what makes this picturesque apartment one to remember…
Tell us about you and what connects you to Carbis Bay.
We are in our 60’s and are originally from Staffordshire, now living in Sussex. We love the peace and quiet of Carbis Bay, so The Trick was a perfect choice for us, with its beautiful views and the beach just down the road. The trainline has a direct link to St Ives, which takes about 5 minutes to get to, along a scenic track, so you can leave the car at home. There’s also other connections to Penzance, Truro and beyond, meaning it’s very easy to get around.
What do you recommend guests do during their stay in The Trick?
We’re lucky to have the South West Coast Path two minutes away from The Trick, which means any hiking adventures are within reach. As well as that, there are many wonderful beaches in this part of Cornwall, including the beaches of St Ives, Hayle and Godrevy. For a break from the beach, there are lots of National Trust places to visit, such as St Michael’s Mount and Trengwainton Garden. Alternatively, we recommend visiting the traditional villages of Mousehole and Cadgwith, which can easily be driven to. In St Ives, there’s dozens of sights worth visiting, but we particularly enjoy the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum. If you’re after some good food, there’s many wonderful eateries – we have enjoyed delicious meals at The Old Forge in Lelant, Porthmeor Beach Cafe in St Ives and The Mermaid, also in St Ives. During one of our stays, we watched the Pirates Of Penzance at the Minack Theatre which was terrific and we’d definitely recommend visiting. Finally, there’s a coffee morning at 11am every Wednesday in the Pedn Olva Hotel in St Ives, which holiday-makers and locals alike enjoy. Many of those visiting on holiday have moved to Carbis Bay and St Ives after falling in love with the area!
What makes The Trick so special to you?
It’s our home from home – a bolthole where we can relax, away from life’s hustle and bustle for a while.
Tell us the inspiration behind the interiors of The Trick.
We love the light airy interior. We’re inspired by the lighthouse and the sea, so have added lamps and blankets to suit this part of Cornwall.
How would you spend the perfect day at The Trick?
When we visit Carbis Bay, we often spend the day wandering local beaches, eating the delicious local seafood and meeting up with the friends that we have made locally.
