We caught up with the owners, Michael and Gemma, to give us an insight on what makes Moonjar so special…
Tell us about what connects you to Cornwall, and more specifically to the St Ives area?
We really just love Cornwall. It is such a beautiful county and often feels like another country. The landscapes and sea are quite unique and the moment we arrive we feel better. Living inland for most of our lives I think we now understand why people love to live by the sea. St Ives has always been special.
What do you recommend most to guests in the area?
We all like running and an early morning run down into St Ives, then out towards Zennor is such a lovely run. I normally stop half way and sit on a rock overlooking the Atlantic. It is a good moment to spot dolphins and this is always a highlight.
What stood out to you about Moonjar, and what was the potential you saw in the property?
Moonjar overlooks Porthminster Beach which is our favourite beach. It is perfect for families and we love to go down for a swim. If we fancy some surfing or body-boarding, we will head across town to Porthmeor Beach. We love Moonjar as it is in a great position overlooking St Ives and the sea but we can walk in and out of town easily. We park our car and then don’t touch it for a week which is lovely.
Talk to us about the inspiration behind the interiors.
When we sorted the interiors we started with the best quality beds as we wanted our guests to fall asleep in the most comfortable beds, listening to the sound of the sea.
How would you spend your perfect stay at Moonjar?
Moonjar is a great place to explore St Ives and the surrounding areas. It is in a very quiet and peaceful position, but at the same time it is a short walk to the centre of St Ives. A perfect day would be an early morning run towards Zennor, followed by a quick swim and a coffee on the beach. Often we will go to one of our favourite restaurants, such as the Porthmeor Beach Cafe or Porthminster Cafe for lunch. In the evening we might go to listen to some Jazz at the Western Hotel, or perhaps go and see a show at the Kids R Us Theatre. Alternatively, we’ll go and get some lovely fish and chips from Harbour Fish and Chips, and perhaps walk down to the end of Smeatons Pier, to look out for seals and dolphins.
