We spoke to Waine, the owner of Sea Air, to catch a glimpse of life at Sea Air, and what drew him to this magical part of the country…
Can you describe some of the unique features or design elements of Sea Air, that make it a distinctive retreat for visitors?
“What sold Sea Air to me was the amazing view over the harbour and beyond, whilst lying in bed! It’s lovely to wake up, open the black-out blinds and let the morning sunlight stream in. If you open the Juliette windows, you will smell the sea air on the breeze, hence the cottage’s name.”
How does Sea Air capture the essence of coastal living, and what special touches have you added to enhance the guest experience?
“In the centre of the old town, Sea Air is furnished and decorated as a modern coastal cottage, but in keeping with its historic heritage, as an old fisherman’s cottage. Where possible, all furniture, soft furnishings and art in Sea Air has been sourced from St Ives.”
In what ways does Sea Air embody the charm and character of its surroundings, from the picturesque harbour to the rugged coastline?
“Sea Air is the end cottage of a row believed to be occupied by former fishermen, right in the heart of Downalong, the historic part of the town centre. Look out for Sea Air’s stained glass windows – of St Ives harbour, and fishing scenes.”
What insider tips or recommendations would you give to guests staying at Sea Air to fully immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of St Ives and its surroundings?
“Check out the freshest fish and chips nearby, washed down with a pint or glass of wine in the 14th century Inn on the harbour front. At Christmas, be right in the heart of the town’s lovely decorations. If staying on to New Year’s Eve, don’t forget to bring a fancy dress outfit for the town’s NYE party, and the best firework display!”
In your opinion, what makes Sea Air more than just a place to stay, but a destination in itself for those seeking a truly unforgettable coastal experience?
“In the middle of the historic old town, step out of Sea Air and you are within 5 minutes walk of all the beaches, and more fantastic shops, eateries and pubs than you will ever be able to visit during your first stay – more will wait for your return visit!”
