A beautifully converted home within tranquil surroundings
Hidden within miles of rural landscape, and close to the wild west Cornwall coastline, The Carthouse is a place where city dwellers can completely let go, and be embraced by indulgent seclusion. Framed by oak beams, dressed with dreamy linens, and effortlessly cool, this converted eighteenth century barn is easy to fall for, and ever-so hard to leave behind. Its wood fired hot tub tempts with big starry skies, and gorgeous open plan spaces bring busy families closer with stories, suppers and plenty of laughter. The Carthouse has been lovingly and tastefully refurbished by the owners, with sustainability in mind. There's a even a cute-as-a-button summerhouse, with its own kitchen, bedroom, shower room, and outdoor seating area.
We have had a truly fabulous week in The Carthouse. It is a very beautiful barn conversion finished to the highest standards.A great location to visit the attractions of West Cornwall and near a great village too. Just Fabulous!
Step Inside
By blending original stone architecture with modern fittings, the owners have created something quite unique at The Carthouse. Enter into the first floor, where two sumptuous yet pared back bedrooms and a statement family shower room await. Natural tones and layered textures create inviting spaces; the master room features beautifully high ceilings with statement wicker lighting, repurposed furniture and a free standing slipper bath, whilst the second bedroom is a cosy nook with a four poster bamboo bed, cocooned within a soft linen canopy. Located downstairs is the open plan living, kitchen and dining area. Gather here for summer days with the full height doors wide open, living that indoor-outdoor lifestyle that Cornwall is best at, or hunker down beside the log burner for the cosiest evening with delicious local food. The kitchen is a dream to play chef in; and with award-winning St Buryan farm Shop selling home reared meats and vegetables in the village, cooking on the Everhot stove is a delight. The outdoor space is a wonderful area in which to relax, and for children to explore and play. The wood fired hot tub is a dream on clear evenings, there's plenty of space for dining together and there's even a lovely summer house with a double bed, seating area and ensuite shower room which is available from April until the end of September.
On Your Doorstep
West Cornwall is our county's wild heart; a place of legend, rugged coastline and historical intrigue. A smuggling past, the castle-topped island of St Michaels Mount, and the world-renowned Minack Theatre - carved into the cliff edge at Porthcurno - are just a few of the attractions that pull visitors to this far away corner of the UK. Sennen Cove and Porthcurno beach are around ten minutes away, offering soft sands and turquoise waters. Newlyn, Mousehole and Penzance are all within a fifteen minute drive of The Carthouse, and are home to some fabulous eateries, bakeries and shops. With an ever changing menu, Argoe in Newlyn (dubbed 'the best fish restaurant ever' by the owner of The Carthouse!) use only bycatch and have veggie and vegan options, and delicious local wines. The Bridge, also in Newlyn, offers relaxed Italian dining, or why not pop down to Mousehole's artisan cafes? If you love to find those rare shops filled with dreamy homewares and clothing, Seven Stones in Penzance is chic, independent and well worth a mooch around. From St Buryan, you are perfectly placed to explore wider west Cornwall, including St Ives, Carbis Bay and Gwithian.
